Most Successful Female Entrepreneurs of India

Who says that if you have a daughter, you have a liability born in your family? A daughter is not less than a son. She takes care of each and every person in the family. Whether she is well or unwell, she takes care of each person. Then she grows up and then it’s time to get married. When in a party with her beau, she is not offered a glass of alcohol. But now, it is her right to drink. We all live in an independent nation.

It’s the woman who are making India an alcohol loving nation. "More women are drinking" a new survey revealed. Rising affluence, aspirations, societal pressure and exposure to a different lifestyle is driving women to experiment with alcohol, stated the survey conducted by the Community against Drunken Driving (CADD) among 5,000 women aged between 18 to 70 in Delhi.

Already among the world's highest consumer of alcohol, India's love for alcohol is growing rapidly.
According to a World Health Organization (WHO) study, between 2010 and 2017, alcohol consumption in India increased by 38 per cent. It increased to about 5.7 litres per adult per year in 2016 from 2.4 litres per adult per year in 2005, the CADD said.

"A steady and silent contributor to this growth has been the increased consumption of alcohol among women who were till recently considered the obvious abstainers," it said in the survey aimed at assessing the current consumption, expenditure pattern, drinking habits and spaces and other factors that are impacting this phenomenon.

"More women are drinking and women are drinking more," the survey said.

After traditionally being non-drinkers for decades, the women's alcohol market is expected to grow by 25 per cent over the next 5 years, it quotes the Indian government's Centre for Alcohol Studies as saying.

'Pinking' of the alcohol market, combined with sustained messaging in movies and on TV that alcohol is the best way for women to relax and reward themselves, is all adding up to the rise, the CADD said.

And it’s not just that the so called weaker sex are towards alcohol. They are also turning into really successful entrepreneurs as well.

At a time when women are creating history across diverse fields, India is yet to make significant progress on gender inequality. Even today, the country is plagued with grave issues such as female infanticide, child marriage, and incidents of dowry-related death, among others. Gender-based discrimination remains a reality for a majority of women, often on a day-to-day basis. When it comes to their professional journeys, too, Indian women experience gender bias from their recruiters, colleagues as well as seniors. Apart from being on the receiving end of inappropriate sexual implication, they are left to deal with other challenges like unequal pay, pregnancy discriminations, and a hostile work environment in general.

When it comes to businesses, women are the more famous ones who are in for the race of successful companies. In fact, women-led start-ups make up for a negligible percentage of the total Venture Capital investments not only in India, but also across the globe. A study published in Venture Capital Journal reveals that start-ups founded by all-male teams are four times more likely to receive funding from venture capital funds as compared with female founders. The numbers don’t lie, but times are changing. New-age Venture Capitals are committed to building a system that is more supportive of businesses run by women.
